VOLUNTEERS AND BANDSMEN.

ENJOYABLE SOCIAL GATHERING.

A social re-union of past and present members of the Masterton Mounted Rifles from 1900 to 1909, and the Masterton Municipal Brass Band, which has been gazetted a military band, eventuated in Kadinnaki's dining rooms last evening. The gathering was a large and representative one, fully one hundred persons being present, and the chair Was occupied by Captain Robinson, of the Masterton Rifle Volunteers. Appropriate speeches weie made, and the proceedings were enlivened by a well arranged programme of music. The secretary, QuartermasterSergeant Levien, carried out his duties in a very capable manner, and the supper, which was arranged by that official, was greaty appreciated. The toast list was as follow: "The Kinj?," proposed by the chairman; "The Navy," Rev, H. Watson —Mr E. R. Daniel; "The Army," Dr R. V. Hosking—Lieut.-Colonel Tate; Medical Staff Corps, Mr F. Hunn —'Surgeon-Captain P. R. Cook; "The Visitors," Captain Robinson — Major Charters, Messrs H. Inns, S. Inder, and N. D. .Bunting; "The Fifth Battalion," Captain Skey - Lieut.-Colonel Tate; "The Battalion Band," Lieut.-Colonel Tate—Bandmaster Hutchinson and Surgeoncaptain Cook; "Past Members Masterton Rifles," Lieut. Haslam— Major Charters, Mr B. Chapman; Staff Sergeant-Major McCr'stall, proposed by Battalion Sergeant-Major Morton; "The Ladies," Lieut. King —Bandsman Ward and Sergeant Brageir.s; "The Press." During the evening sorgs were rendered by Messrs F. Hunn, J. Elder, A. Briden, Captain Skey, and MajorCharters, Mr F. W. G. McLeod (cornet solo) bandsmen Elder and Maher (duet), Major A. B. Charters (recitation), and selections were rendered by the Band. Mr H. Inns presided at the piano.
