AUSTRALIANS AT HOME. MATCH AGAINST M.C.C. FINE INNINGS BY RANSFORD. United Press Association-By Electric Telegraph Copyijht. Received September 1, 9.10 a.m LONDON, August 31. The first innings of the Australians in the match against an M.C.C. team, which was continued to-day, realised 434. The weather was dull and the wicket fast. Befora any addition was made to the overnight score, Noble was taken at the wicket. His innings was a brilliant all-round one. Two for 118. Trumper joined Ransford. Both played free, vigorous cricket, and the score mounted rapidly. Ransford, indulging in leg-hitting, reached his century in 180 minutes. A separation came just before luncheon, Trumper at 80 playiag Fielder on. He gave a chance off Buckenham before scoring, but afterwards showed good all-round form. He stayed 100 minutes, and hit 14 fourers. Three for 285. The fourth wicket went at 291, Gregory being easily taken at slip. The third century was hoisted in 270 minutes. Armstrong fai ed to stop one from Tarrant. - Five for 306. Macartney followed. Ransford, by fine cutting and driving, sent up 150 runs in 265 minutes. At 375 rain caused a short stoppage. On resuming, Ransford, after adding 40, on-played Buckenham. He had batted for 300 minutes, and gave a magnificent all-round display. He gave a chance at the wicket off Buckenham at 57. His score included 24 fourera. Six for -388. Cotter and Career failed to stay, the seventh wicket going at 396. Eight for 408. Laver followed at 425. Macartney was cautious, and lasted 95 minutes.
