IHURAUA NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent). The winter here has been exeptionaliy mild, there being only really one short cold period oi southerly weather. The spring so far is also very mild, although the other week we had a slight fall of snow, but it did not last long, fortunately for the young lambs that were about. On account of the mild season the stock are looking very well indeed. During the winter months there have been quite a number of socials and dances held here. Last month a ball given by the bachelors of the valley was a decided success, but the ladies return held on the 27th fairly eclipsed it. It was the largest gathering held in the valley for some considerable time. A concert is to be held in aid of the school library fund on the 3rd of next month, and judging by the enthusiasm being displayed promises to be a decided success.

It may not be generally known that the greatest candlemaking establishment in the world is in England. It is that of Pkice's Patknt Candid: Company, Ltd., with two other large factories, one at Battersea on the Thames, and the other on the Mersey, mit Birkenhead, covering together thirty acres, and giving employment to about, 2,200 people. The leading position held by the company is shown not merely by th"ir having received the large number of eighty-six awards at the principal International Exhibitions during the past half century, but especially by the unique fact that five of these are Grand Prix gained in the greatest candle-pro-ducing countries of the European continent —namely, in Antwerp in 1894, Amsterdam in 1890, Brussels in 1897, anil Paris in 1899 and 1900. Some of the company's specialties are: Gold Medal Paimitine, Grand Prize Parastrine Shade, and Best Stearine Candle; '.Childs', Royal Castle, New Patent and Paimitine Star Night Lights; Regina, Glycerin Cream, and Court Toilet Soaps.
