THE FREEZING WORKS.
To the Editor. Sir,—The business men of Masterton, and in fact the residents generally, apparently do not recognise the importance to this town of the establishment of freezing works in its vicinity, otherwise the question would be taken up much more energetically than it has been. The opportunity now offering to secure an important, necessary and permanent industry in our midst does not usually offer more than once in the history of a district, and to miss it for the want of a little enterprise is nothing short of madness. The suggestions thrown out in jour columns from time to time in the interests of securing the works here were admirable ones, but I would suggest that the Mayor should take a hand in the campaign. He might with great advantage to the project call a public meeting of citizens, and lay the matter clearly before them. such a meeting a strong and representative committee of business men and others co.ild doubtless be formed, and a short, sharp and effective campaign tor shares entered upon. The site will be definitely settled within the next ten or twelve days, but Masterton has done nothing of a special character toward securing it at che Wa.ngawa. It is a matter of the very greatest importance to every work-* ing man, as wel' as to every bua-; ness man and property owner in« Masterton, and any action the Mayor might take to improve our chances would certainly meet with wholehearted support. A lead in the matter is what is wanted.—l am, etc., WORKING MAN. Dixon Street, Masterton.
