THE NEW MEAT COMPANY'S SITE.

WHERE MASTERTON'S INTER. EST LIES. SHARES FREELY SUBSCRIBED LOCALLY. It is gratifying to learn that the , suggestion advanced in the editorial columns of the "Wairarapa Age" on Saturday morning last, that to order to ensure the establishmentflMn the new Meat Company's Works snH Wamgawa the commission agents Masterton should effect the disposal of a large number of shares among the townspeople, met with a veryready response. With commendable enteiprise Mersrs W. B. Chennells and W. H. Cruickshank accepted the suggestion with enthusiastic alacrity, and, with a just appreciation of the maxim that "there is no time like the present," a"campaign was immediately instituted. The result of their efforts was encouraging in- the extreme, ' more especially taking into consideration, the fact that Saturday is not a good day on which to embark on such an undertaking among the people. The reception given gentlemen referred to indicates most distinctly that the townspeople are not at all apathetic as to the importance of the movement. Messrs Chennells and Cruickshank, within the short space of one hour, succeeded in placing shares to the amount of £SOO. Everyone approached showed a keen desire to co-operate in the movement. The canvass will be continued and concluded this week, and residents desirous of becoming shareholders, who have not yet been approached, are requested in order to facilitate the effectiveness of the valuable and public-spirited work undertaken by Messrs,Chennells and Cruickshank to communicate with them. It is perhaps as well to point out once ! more that the shares are being subscribed upon two conditions being complied with by tne Company, viz.A (1) That the works be situated with** in a radius of five miles of Masterton, and (2) that they bear preferred interest at the rate of 6 per cent. By assisting the movement to the best of their ability townspeople will help substantially the progress of Masterton, and consequently their cwn interests as well.
