(From Oar Resident Reporter). Saturday. Mr A. McLeavy, of Makomako while working in a metal pit, had i the misfortune to dislocate one of his hips, through a slip falling on I him. The unfortunate man was brought to the Pahiatua Hospital and is progressing favourably. • Last evening the Pahiatua Debating Society met in the Foreßters' Hall, Mr Dallaston presiding. The subject "Is the New Zealand Government right in encouraging immigration," was taken by four young members, who showed considerable talent, and after an interesting debate the verdict of the members present, over lorty in number, rested with the affirmative. During the evening Mrs Baker Gabb presented the prizes won at the ladies' social evening. The annual meeting of the Ballance Dairy Company will be held in the Olympic Theatre on Monday, August 30th, at 32.30 p.m. The Nireaha Football Club held a most enjoyable smoke concert last evening, in honour of their winning of the Senior and Junior Bush Championships. Songs wero rendered by several present, and Mr Manson ably officiated at the piano. Several prominent men in football circles congratulated the Nireaha Club on their double win. (By Telegraph). Sunday. A hockey match <vn«? played on the local rgounds on Saturday, between the Oete ladies and Kotoroa, and resulted in a win for the former after a good game by two goals to nil. On Saturday evening a presentation was made to Mr hi. Clark, who has for 14 years been in the employment of the local branch of the Wairarapa Farmers' Co-operative Association, an who is now leaving to follow up farming on a section recently acquired by him in the Carrington Estate, Carterton. Mr V. Prosser made the presentation of a travelling rug to Mr Clarke, and spoke of the happy relations that had always existed between the recipient and his fellow employees. Ihe speaker wished him prosperity in his new sphere of life. Mr Clarke suitably responded. , Mr Clarke is well respected in Pahiatua and always helped at social functions. He will leave for Carterton this week.
