EXILED.

M. LOPUKHIN STARTS FOR SIBERIA. ST. PETERSBURG, August 27. M. Lopukhin, formerly chief of the Russian police, who was sentenced to exile for treason, has started for Yakutsk, his place of exile. His wife and brother-in-law accompany him. M. Lopukhin was charged with treason in having, under stress of intimidation, betrayed Azeff, an agent of the secret police, to the revolutionaries, thus assisting the State's enemies. Lopukhin, who protested that he acted in the interests of humanity, was prevented from speaking by the president of the court. He was sentenced to five years' imprisonment, which was afterwards commuted to transportation to a Siberian settlement.
