WELLINGTON LAND BOARD.
The Wellington District Land Board helu its monthly meeting on Thursday. The Crown Lands Commissioner, Mr James Mackenzie, presided, the other members present being Messrs J. Dawson and ti. T. Ellingham. The following applications for transfers were approved on the usual conditions: —Sections 2 and 4, block ]], Mikimiki, 502 acres, Official Assignee in estate A. Collie to J. Montgomery (subject to registration of transmission).
In connection with Mr H. Robson's application to transfer section 2, block 7. Hunua. 399 acres, to Mr J. R. Morrison, it was resolved to obtain a report from the Crown Lands Ranger.
Mr M. Quillinan, lessee of sectnn 15, block 11, Makuri, 300 acres, applied to transfer to Mrs I. M. VVaterman, and it was resolved to obtain a report from the Crown Lands Ranger. With reference to the proposed transfer of section 83, b!ock 1, Makuri, Mangamaramarama Village Settlement, 11J acres, it appeared that Mr Alpass was already the holder of 328 acres of freehold land. As this area appeared to be more than sufficient to maintain himself and his family, it was resolved to decline the transfer, the land not being required for use for bona fide settlement.
Mr W.. J. Cherry sought to transer section 1, block 8, Wairarapa, Tawnha Settlement, 123J acres, to Mr P. Harhen, but as no extraordinary reason for the transfer was disclosed it was resolved to decline the request. Mr J. H. Gilchrist, junr., applied to transfer sections 33 and 23 and 28 of block 13, Pukeokahu, 800 acres, to Mr J. B. Ible, and it was resolved to obtain a report from the Crown Lands Ranger.
Mr A. F. W. Kerr, lessee of section 24. block 5, Mount Cerberus, 100 acred, applied to transfer to Mrs E. A. Ireland. It was resolved to postpone consideration as Mr Kerr had not complied with the residential conditions. The same decision was come to in connection with the request of Mr A. R. Gillard to transfer section 23, block 5, Mount Cerberus, 100 acres, to Mr A. F. W. Kerr. Mr Ellingham was deputed to look into the matters.
A petition was received from Messrs E. Edwards and thirty-two other settlers asking the board to reconsider the app ication to transfer section 13, block 10, Manganui, 200 acres, from Mr J. H. Waugh to Mr 11. G. Ritchfield, which was declined on the 29th ultimo. The board resolved to recommtnu the transfer. Mr F. J Read applied to transfer section 2, block 16, Wairarapa, Dyer Settlement 112 acres, to Mr B. A. Phelps. It was resolved that as the section had not bsen held five years and no extraordinary event had apparently taken place the application must be declined. The Commissioner reported that the board's recommendation to approve of the proposed sub-lease of section part 11 of 8 block 17, Mangahao, Mackenzie Village Settlement, had been declined by the Minister. It was resolved to recommend that Mr F. E. Tilyard and Mrs E. A. Filbrow by grnr.ted a license to occupy section 30, block 5, Huangarua Tawaha Settlement, 2\ acres, from j year to year at a rent of £3 7o 6d j per annum, subject to the usual i conditions. ] A report was received from the Crown Lands Ranger on Messrs Perham,Larsons and Co.'s application for a lease of 50 acres, of section 31, block 5, Karioi, and it was resolved that the application be not entertained on the grounds that the applicants have already a large area of land. On a letter being received froinjtbe Under-Secretary for Lands with reference to a proposed leasing of sections 43 to 46, Nireaha Villi!!.*,e Settlement, 4 acres, it was resolvuo to rescind a former resolution and to allow Mr Dowdeo to remain in occupation for the present under his year to year license.
