MARLBOROUGH DEFEATS AUCKLAND..

By Telegraph—Press Association. BLENHEIM, Aueust 26. The Auckland footballers played their opening match of the tour today in line weather in the presence of a large crowd. - The Marlborough ropresentatives won by eight points to three. The score of the winners was made up of a penalty goal kicked by Church, and a try scored by Nolan, which Cnurch converted. Seeling scored an unconverted try for the losers. The game was of fairly even nature-with the advantage, if anything, on the side of the Marlborough men, who did creditable work in ad divisions. Auckland lacked the amount of combination that will no doubt be exhibited later on the tour. The success of the local men in defeating the champions of New Zealand after again retaining the Serldon shield has created great enthusiasm.
