THE WELLINGTON FARMERS' MEAT CO., LTD.
(To the Editor).
Sir, —In your issue of to-day a correspondent signing himself "A Farmer" makes three statements which, however, he has failed to sustain, but appears to make it clear that he ha 3 interests that may be injured by the operations of the new company. In the first place he tells us that Wellington and not the Wairarapa is the right place for the new worKS. Now it may seem strange, but we have had a lot of advice of this kind, particularly from people who have no reason to wish well to the new company. As a matter of fact, the best independent experts in the Dominion have stated that the Wairarapa and not Wellington should be the location of the works, and there is no reason why freezing works should be established inland as well as dairy factories. With regard to Mr Buchanan's advice he is indeed a cautious man. His investment in Export Company's shares proves that and he has shown by his actions that he is desperately anx ious to conserve his interest in the Export Company for the benefit of himself, and his capitalistic friends who own by far the larger portion of the shares. The la.'t statement, or rather insinuation, made by "Farmer" is too well answered by the ahare list of the Wellington Farmers' Meat Company —a list of about four hundred farmers —a number which is far in excess of either of the existing companies, and the canvass is by no means half completed yet. —I am ©fcc SHAREHOLDER. Masterton, August 25th.
