ANGLICAN SALE OF WORK AND PRODUCE.

A DECIDED SUCCESS.

The annual Anglican sale of work and produce, organised by Mrs W. B. Chennells, local secretary for the Melanesian Mission, was held yesterday. The event has hitherto been held in St. Mat thaw's Schoolroom, but it has now quite outgrown that building, and therefore by the kind permission of Mr J. L. Murray, the sale of work was conducted in the more commodious hall in the Exchange Buildings. The anticipations of the management in regard to annual progress of the sale were quite realised, tor the spacious room was thronged with van appreciative attendance during the whole of the afternoon and evening, and the function proved a great success from every point of view. The various stalls were most artistically stocked with a profusion of goods, and the energetic stall holders experienced a very busy time. The proceedings were interspersed with various comDetitions of an amusing and instruct! va character, and keen interest was taken in the various results. The stalls and stall holders were as follow:—Central stall (needlework, fancy goods and dolls), Mesdames Cameron, De Castro, Pyke, F. E. Lamb, Judd, Fannin, Cook, and C. Perry; Cake Stall, -Mesdames W. H. Jackson and Lamb; Produce Stall, Misses Dixon (2) and Townsend; Flower StaM,, Misses Gawifen, Gladys Lett, and Minnie D.xon; Sweets Stall, Misses SummereU, Hirschberg, and Pinhey; Bran Tubs and Fish Ponds, Mrs Byrne and Misses Helma Kummer, tfsmee Waddington, Jean Sellar, Hazel Fuller. The Misses Jackson undertook the arduous duties ot doorkeeping at the hall in the afternoon,and in the evening this was capably carried out by Mr A. P. Fielding. The games and competit ons were in charge ot Misses Holm wood, Moore, Hampton, Robias, and Sutton. Miss Finnis very kindly allowed afternoon tea to be dispensed in the Arcadia Rooms, and she was most ably assisted in carrying oat the various arrangements by Miss Fannin. The winners of the paper hat competition resulted in Miss Whelch being declared winner, and Miss Sutton being placed second. The cookery competitions resulted as follows:—Adults.—Scones: First pme, Miss Agnes Robins. Sausage Rolls: First prize, Miss Osborne. Sponge Roll: First prize, Miss Agnes Robins.
