PECULIAR DEVELOPMENT.

Received August 25, 11 a.m. MELBOURNE, August 25. In the libel action Swinburne v "The Age," the defendants have withdrawn from the case, owing to certain conversations having occurred between a lawyer's clerk and a juryman. The Judge has decided to go on with the case in the absence of the defendants, holding that there is nothing to make him dissatisfied with the jury's fitness to try the case. HEAVY DAMAGES. .Received August 25, 9.55 p.m. MELBOURNE, August 25. The jury awarded Mr Swinburne £3,250 damages in the action for damages against the "Age."
