United Press Association—l!y Electric Telegraph Copyright. Received August 23, 10.15 a.m, MELBOURNE, August 23. A ballot by the Typographical Society on the question of ceasing work on September 4th, in furtherance of a demand for £3 a week, as a minimum wage for compositors and letter-press machinists, resulted in a large majority rn in favour of pressing the demand. The position rtow is that unjess the concession is nrade before Augusts 31st the men will cease work on September 4th.
WILD RIOTING AT PITTSBURG.
BOMB THROWN.
Received August 23, 11.30 p,mv NEW YORK, August 23, Wild rioting occurred at Pittsburg in connection with a strike at the steel car works. Women threw a bomb in the midst of a group of mounted policemen, but the missle did not explode. Bombs were thrown into the stockade around the companies works, and wrecked portion of the buildings. The company's doctor was injured.
