A BIG DEFICIT.
PROPOSED TAXES

It is. estimated that the French Budget for 1910 will show a deficit of eight millions sterling. The French Minister of Finance (M. Cockery) proposes to increase the tobacco tax to produce an additional million and a-half, and also to sell to wine-growers a State label, to be taxed to each bottle of genuine wine, guaranteeing its purity. The cost of the label will vary according to the price of the wine.
