FOOTBALL.
The following are the positions of the teams in the various competitions:—

Reid, to represent Wairarapa against the Bush District, atf Pahiatua, on Saturday next: - Fullback: P. Rogers (Greytown). Three-quarters: W. Darvil! (Red Star), C. Groube (Carterton), S. Mason (Gladstone). , ' Five-eighths: N. McKenzie (Carterton), T. Jury (Greytown). Half bacK: F. Ball (Red Star) Wing forward: R. McKenzie (Red Star). Forwards P. Barry (Carterton;, Allen (Grey town, Cameron (Greytown), H. McKenzie (Carterton), Oj Skeet (Greytown), A. Ross (Ked Star), Desmond (Carterton). Emergencies: Back, D. Thompson (Gladstone); forward, I Norman. (Gladstone). Players who are unable , to make the trip are requested to notify the selectors as early as possible.
SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP.
RED STAR- v GREYTOWN.
The game to decide this year's winners of the Wairarapa Rugby Union's Senior Competition was played at .Masterton, between the abuve Clubs, !on Saturday, The Greytown skipper won the toss, and defended the eastern goal. Red Stars kicked off, and after play had been in the centre for a few minutes the Gre.ytown forwards put in some good passing work, which ended in P. Rogers crossing the Star's line near the goalposts. The shot at goal went wide. After the ball was in midfield for some time the red-and-black forwards became aggressive, but only to be repulsed by the good kicking of the StarJQacks. The Stars then pressed their opponents, who had to force. Haif time sounded with the scores j —Greytown 3, Stars • nil. On the game being resumed play livened ; up, bat the defence of the Greytown ; backs was very good. For a breach of the rules by a Star plkyer, under ' their goal, Greytown were awarJoc a free kick, and Balfour s-jccjed-'d in piloting the leather ovdr the bar. Play again centred, and the Stars swept up the field, but their : efforts to cross the opposing fine j were of no avail. From a mark F. j Ball kicked a good goal. The Greyj town forwards livened up, and from ' a good passing rush E. Skeet crossed the Stars' line, the shot at eraol going wide. Again the Greytown forwards swept up the field, and rush ended in 0. Skeet crossing between the posts, ' Bak'our adding the extra points.---Greytown 14, Stars 3. The game ended shortly after, with Greytown attacking, arid without any alteration m the score. Mr A. B. Charters was referee.
CARTERTON v. LO WfcJR VALLEY.
The above fixture was played at Maryborough on Saturday, and after a poor exposition of football ended in favour of the visitors by 20 points to 3. In the first spell the game was very even, and ended —Carterton 3, Lower Valley 3, but ip the second half the superior combination of the Carterton forwarda made the game,very one-sided, and they added another 17 points—five tries, one of which was converted.
THIRD-CLASS CHAMPIONSHIP.
MASTERTON v RED STAR.
The Masterton Third-class team met and defeated the Red Star team at Masterton on Saturday by 11 points to nil. For the winners Carmine, E. Simonson, and Pauling scored tries, one of which was converted by E. Fisher. Mr T. Fielding was referee. The Masterton team are to be congratulated on winning the Third-class Championship, with a splendid record. All through the competition they have played clean football, their exhibitions have been crisp and clever, and their combination excellent. The team would have-given a splendid' account of itself in the junior competition. Much of the success of the team was duo to the able
| way in which the captain (Mr A. Pauling) handled his men, their ronduct on and off the field being al 1 that could be desired. The Red Star Thirds, who won the competition laat year, and are runners up this season, were much weaker than usual owing to the continual changing of the team. Nevertheless they played good football, and their conducted themsleves in a praiseworthy manner both off and on the field.

For Otago, tries were scored by Sutherland (3), Davidson (3), Mitch ell, Marston, and A. MoDunald, two being converted, while Marston potted a goal. NAPIER, August 21. Hawke's Bay beat Poverty Bay by twelve points to three. . BLENHEIM, August 21. The Seddon Shield football match, Westland v. Marlborough, was played t -day in fine weather, and resulted in a win for Marlborough by 13 points to 6.
By Telegraph Association* WELLINGTON, August 22. The Wellington Rugby Union Senior Championship was decided yesterday before about 5,0(J0 spectators. Poneke are the season's champions with the Petone Club as runners-up. Poneke yesterday beat Petorio by 16 points to 9.
