NATIONAL OBSERVATORY WANTED.
An appeal for the establishment of an observatory in New Zealand was made by Professor Segar, in a lecture a Auckland on Monday evening on comets He reminded his hearers of the three hundredth anniversary of the construction of the telescope by Galileo, and urged that an effort should be made to put New Zealand on a level with other countries. The time had arrived when New Zealand should have a nationa
observatory. We had had a good deal I of knowledge handed down to us by our ancestors, and we ought to J. make it our duty, as well as consider it our privilege, to extend the boundaries of science in all its branches.
