HOCKEY.
The Manawatu-Wairarapa match, to be played on Thursday next, on the Showgrounds, is causng considerable interest, as the Manawatu team have the reputation of always playing a scientific game, and last season they went very near to getting possession of the Ranfurly Shield from Auckland, who only defeated them by one goal. The Wairarapa team have just returned from a tour through the Hawke's Bay district, and the comnination gained on the tour should result in them making a creditable showing. Those wh) have not witnessed a game of hockey should make a point of seeing this one, as it will, providing the weather is fine, be a good exhibition. The price of admission is —gents Is and ladies 6d. Grandstand free to all. The game will. most probably be controlled by twj refeiees, a system which has found much favour in other parts of the Dominion, but new to the Wairarapa.
