CARTERTON NEWS.
(From Our Resident Reporter). Tuesday. The welcome home social to be tendered to Mr and *Mrs H. S. Moss, under the auspices of St. Mark's Church, will take place 'to-murrow evening in the Schoolroom. Mr G. H. Jenkinson, of the Department of Agriculture, was on an official visit to this town to-day. The Frendlv Societies' Card Tournament will commence to-morrow evening,'when the Oddfellows and Druids try conclusions. Mr M. Hansen, at one time on the staff of the Dalefield Dairy Company, has been appointed manager of the Longbush Cheese Factory. The School Committee met last evening, Rev. W. J. Elliot pre. siding. Miss Broadbent was granted leave of absence to attend the agricultural instruction class. The Secretary's action in notifying the Education Board that the Technical classes had been abandoned for want of support was endorsed. It was decided to ask the Rifle Volunteers for permission to use the miniature rifle range recently erected in the D:iM Hall. A vote of sympathy was passed to Miss Scott, 8.A., on account of her Illness. Messrs J. Callister and H. Wilson were appointed visitors for the month. The Belvedere School Committee met last evening, when it was decided to take no action in regard to the Education Board's communication in reference to a miniature riflerange. It was resolved to hold the annual school concert on Friday, September 3rd. The roll was reported at 54, with an average dttendance of 48.
