(From Our Resident Reporter). Monday. ." The hockey match betwen th« Kotoroas and the Girls High School played on Saturday last was won by the High School girls by one goal to nil, Miss M. Do Malmanche souring the goal. Misa R. Boagey played a \ splendid game for the High School, as did Miss J. Wilson for the Kotoroas. The Secretary of the Pahiatua Central Branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union is in receipt cf a letter from Mr K. C. Nottage, Government Inspector of Orchards, stating that he will give a demonstration of spraying and pruning fruit twes on Wednesday afternoon. I underaand that the orchard of Mr L. T. Herbert will be used for 1 the purpose, and all those interested in fruit and fruit culture are invited to be present. ; Professor Bert. Hepburn has offerad to donate a priza of one guinea for the best gentleman rider (hunters style) at the, first Show, nel:l under the auspices of the Pahiatua-Akito A. and P. Association. A fine large cows', ed, contai ing sixteen bails and all the latest improvements is being erected by Mr C. A. Bluett for Mr 0. O'Brien, of Mangamutu. When finished \ne structure will be. one. of the most up-to-date in the district. "*" A meeting to form a beautifying association is to be held to-morrow evening. A reminder is given to farmers requiring £«od healthy young cattle, of the special sale of 650 head cf young steers that is being held by Messrs Dalgety and Co., in the P.P.A. yards on Wednedday next at \2 p.m. Mr Allan Manguson, who was for some considerable time host of the Club Hotel in Eketahuna, entered into possession to-day of the local Club Hotel ' On the local golf links, on Saturday, Miss Norton and Mr G. H. Smith were the winners of Messrs Alcocks and Company's trophy. On Wednesday afternoon a match will be played for the Kev. Marshall's trophy. FOOTBALL. ' } On Thursday afernoon the Recreation Ground will be the scene of a representative football match between Poverty bay and the Bush Union. It is many years since an outside representative match was played 1 in Pahiatua, and should the weather be tine a large gathering of spectators is expected, although it is somewhat uofurtiinnte that the day is not the half-holiday. The Bush tearri h a fairly strong one, and should give a good account oi themselves. After the match the visitors are to be entertained at th* Club Hotel. The following is the Bush team:—Full-back, Thomson; threequarters Connor, Collins, Eceleton; five-eighth, Whits; half-back, Mexted; wing forwards, Lyle and Swanson; forwards, Robinson, R. p J. Smith, Henry, G. Smith, J. Ryan, Pilkington. Howard, Emergences: Backs, J. Dungan, Short, Wright, Bain; forwards, Bissett, B. Harvey. Five of the above team are members of the Nireaha Club, four from Pahiatua and three each from Konini and Mangatainoka. Any player who are unable to get away 'is requested to inform the Secretary of the Union, Mr F. Morris not later than Wednesday morning'.
