The Australian cricketers to-day beean a match at Blackpool against an English eleven. There was an attendance of about eight thousand spuctators. The weather was fine and windy, and the wicket was in good condition. The teams were composed as follows: England.-W. Douglas, J. ,Crawford, V. Crawford, Shields, Buckenham, King, Jayes, Knight, Reeves, Coe, and M'Gahey. Australia.-Carter, M'Alister, Hartigan, Trumper, Noble, Gregory, Ransford, O'Connor, Whitty, Carkeek, and Hopkins. M'Gahey, captain of the English team, won the toss, and sent Douglas and Knight to the wickets. At the tea adjournment, the batsmen were still unconquered witn 249 runs to their credit. Douglas gave a good all-round display of hitting, and Knight showed some good cutting and leg-hitting. Knight, whose score stood at 142, gave a chance to Ransford in the slips off O'Connor when he had made 33. Douglas had made 97 bv Jvery sound cricket. He gave a chance to Trumper in the slips off O'Connor at 77. Play was continued Merrily after tea but eventually Knight was caught at long-on. He made a sixer and twenty-three fourers. One for 284. Soon afterward* Douglas gave an easy catch to Gregory. Two for 291. The third wicket fell at 339. Kin g knocked up his sccre in fifty-five minutes. At the drawing of stumps the score stood at 379 for three wickets. Scores : ENGLAND. First Innings.
