The Fifth Test Match between England and Australia was continued to-day at Kenning ton Oval. The wicket was excellent. Rhodes and Fry continued the Englishmen's innings. Fifty was hit up in the game number of minutes. The century appeared at tne same Tate of scoring as the half-century. At this stage Laver was compelled to retire, having snapped the muscles of his thigh—an old injury. Rhodes showed seme fine leg-hitt-ing. Fry had 50 to his credit in 90 minutes' clever playing without giving a chance. Frequent bowling changes were tried to effect a break in the partnership. Then Fry was run out. His innings occupied 115 minutes. Three f0r.140. Careful and faultless cricket was still played by Rhodes. Sharp joined him, the latter making a #haky start. On resuming after lunch, Cotter and Armstrong took up the bowling. The fast bowler's first over saw Khodes dismissed by a catch at the wicket. Four for 187. Woolley had his off stump lifted out of the ground by Cotter. Five for 201. Hayes came next, but hi* stay was brief. Six for 206. Three wickets had fallen in the first twenty-five minutes since lunch, Cotter showing great pace Sharp was joined by Hutchirgs, and a fine partnership followed. The third century was recorded 'in 280 minutes. Both batsmen gave a brilliant display of all-round hitting, and quick bowling changes Wdre made. At 293 Sharp gave a chance to Carter at the wicket off Cotter. The tea adjournment was then taken. Gregory caught Sharp at cover point off Hopkins, and terminated a resolute and judicious innings, which had lasted 170 minutes. Seven for 348. , The partnership har* hated an hour and three-quarters. Macartney caught Hutchinga at midoff without any change in the score, and Barnes and Carr were quicKly got xid of for an additional four runs, the innings ending for 352. " __

With a deficiency of twenty-seven urns on the first innings, the Australians opened their account for the second time with Gregory and Bardsley. The deficit was wiped off in twenty-five minutes, and the halfcentury went up in forty minutes. Frequent changes of bowling were tried, and the batsmen were unconqaered when play closed for the day.
