CASTLEPOINT COUNTY.
The ordinary meeting of the Council was held on Saturday last. There were prese >t Crs. A. J. Speedy (chairman), J. Langdon. K. Langdon, Richardson, Ryder and Mason. Mr W. Harvey wrote pointing out that no deposit was asked, for in his conditions of lease or the Castlepoint-Langdale Reserve, and that the clerk had advised him to that affect, and requesting that the tenders be reconsidered. The Council declined to reopen the qutstion. Messrs Seaton and Sladden wrote advising the completion of the lea road. A letter was received f-om Messrs Johnston and Co., re repairs to jetty at Castfepoint which, had been agreed t) undertake before the wool Season. vmam^W^^esara Mr Buchanan wrote in fcreply to an application for road grants asking for further information. The Council decided to supply the information. The Council was advised of a breach of the Wheel-tire by-law. 7t was decided not to p.rosecute unlass the offence was repeated. It was agreed to alter.the boundaries of the Ridings, increase them to four, east, west, north, and south,there to be two councillors each for the east, west, and south, and one for the North Riding The clerk was directed to make enquiries about the cost of ground trol.ies for removing stone on,, steep grounds, and their workings. The road overseer's report was read and adopted. The question of a general rate was then discussed, and it was agreed to give notice of the intention to strike a seven, farthing rate, the same as last year. Accounts amounting co £332 18s were passed for payment.
