TENUI.
From Our Own Correspondent. TiNUI, August 4. The old settles say that the flood on the 2nd inst. 1 was the highest for thirty years. The Catholic Church suffered from the flood water considerably—the water being up to the chancel and therefore damaging tha carpet and other furniture. V/e ha.ve not as yet seen the mysterious airship lights here. But Messrs Pinhey Borthers have installed the acetylene gas in their new stabie Mr Page also has the Tenui Hotel lit up with the gas. The from both places is brillant and highly commented upon and no doubt is a more powerful light than coal gas. An amusing incident happened here on the clay of the flood. A resident who waited till the water was creeping inside before moving his family to safe quarters, was anxious about his pig that was running loose and aftar searching in alMikely places, gave up the task, under the impression that the pig was drowned. He waa astonished the next morning on returning to the house to find the pig comfortably accommodated in a bedroom.
