PAHIATUA NEWS.

(From Oar Resident Reporter). " Friday. The fortnightly meeting of Lodge Pahiatua, U.A.0.D., was held in the Foresters' Hall, last evening. There was a good attendance of members, and two new members were proposed. Sick pay waa advanced to Bro. A. Calridge, of Stonehenge Lodge, Masterton. Complimentary tickets were received from j Court Pahiatua, A.0.F., for their anniversary social on the 18th inst., and it was decided that the A.D. and Secretary represent the Druids. A P.A. diploma was granted to Bro. H. Ware. Bro. Grant, of the Grand Lodge attended the meeting. After the usual routine business a pleasant evening was spent at card playing. Although July was such a mild month, we have more than made up tor it this month, as the weather so far experienced has been cold and boisterous, and it is feared will bo very detrimental to young lambs and cows coming into profit.

The Pahiatua County Council will meet to morrow morning, and the Borough Council's monthly meeting is on Monday evening in the Council Chambers, the Hospital Trustees meeting in the same place on Thursday afternon at 4 p.m. Tyrannic, who won the double at tlio Woodlands Hunt Club meeting on Wednesday Ir.st, has been shipped to Christchnrch to take part in the meeting there next week. The Ground Committee of the A. and P. Association meet this evening to further discuss the advantages of the Pahiatua Racecourse, and the Scarborough Domain, as Showgromid sites. It is stated that during the recent j rains the Manawatu river at the Uper Gorge bridge rose 33 feet above normal level. The Woodville senior football team defeated the pick of the Dannevirke teams by 10 points to 6. The choral cantata "The Pets of Carnelian" was rendered in St. Paul's Church last evening. The proceeds are to be devoted to the Organ Fund. The tenth annual social of the Woodville railway employees will be held on September Bth. This function is looked upon, as one of the best of the year in Woodville. In the hockey match Dannevirke A v. Woodville, the former were victorious by 5 goals to nil. The work ot the erection of a supper room to the Woodville Foresters' Hall is to be proceeded with at once. Messrs E. B. Plare and Co., land agents, report the sale of Mr QuillilaVa farm at Puketoi, and Mr Waterman's farm at Kohunui. Mr H. A. Thomson, of the Central Book Arcade, is making an offer of a postcard album containing 36 cards for the low price of 3s. Th album will be posted free to any ad-e dress.
