The Australian cricketers to-day began a match against Lancashire at Liverpool. The wicket was inclined to be slow Hornby won the toss, and sent the visitors in. It did not. take long to demonstrate that the bo'vlera were masters of the situation. The first wicket fell for 12 runs, and the serond for 13.

Armstrong joined Bardsley, and the partnership brought the total up to 39, when Bardsley gave a catch to Tyldesiey at long-on. Armstrong had contributed 18. Noble was dismissed in attempting to play a yorker from Brearley. Trumper succumbed to the third ball he received from Dean, Five for 58. A good left handed catch by MacLaren disposed of Macartney. Hopkins had a similar experience, the sixth wicket going at 60 and the seventh at 78. Cotter, at 80, in hitting out at Dean, played the ball on to his wicket, Laver failed to negotiate the second ball he receivi d from Dean, the total still remaining at 80. * Scores :•-
