A detachment of sixty Spaniards held a blockhouse all day on Monday against a large force of Moors, who dispersed when a relief column ap peared. The Spaniards charged! the enemy with great dash, cheering for Spain and the K'ng.

report that fierce lighting took place on July 25th between the gendarmes, police and revolutionises outside Barcelona. The monks at the Marist Monastry offered a stout resistance, three monks being shot. The mob destroyed five churchgs and conver.ts.in a few hours.During the night Barcelona was given over to the horrors of revolution. There was no gas or electricity in the streets, and a gang of incendiariss, including women, carried torches, bundl.s <if straw and paper saturated with petroleum, and rushed from church to church and convent to convent setting each one alight. "The next aftirnoon they sacked a number of goldsmiths shop 3. j The Fathers and pupils of the Jesuit Monastery at Saria repelled the rioters for three days by steady rifle fire until the artillery ielieved them. After burning a convent at San Jeronimo the revolutionists disinterred the corpses and carried them. in procession. They tied ropes to the embalmed bodies of nuns and dragged them through the streets. There are now 25,000 soldiers in Barcelona.
