OTAGO CENTRAL RAILWAY.
By Telegraph—Press Association.'DUNEDIN. August 4. The Minister for Public Works told a deputation from the Otagn Central Railway League that he had Jsdown the district for forty years, and that the Otago Central Railway had been extended to its full liirit —in fact further than it shoul.l have been to the disadvantage of the taxpayers. He had r.o ntention of advising any Government to extend this railway fur!h?r for years to come, because there were other railways in New Zealand and in that should be constructed be fore the extension to Wanaka was made. He concurred with Mr Sidey taat the railway should be extendi in the futore—probably when we hau five minions of people in New Zca land and a million- in Otago; that would be about .the time when tie Government would be justified in extending the line." Nobody in his sober senses say that that Railway ought to fce txtsnded to connect with the West Coast sys'em at Hokitika."
