(From Oar Resident Reporter). | Tuesday. 3 A pleasant social evening was spent in St Paul's Presbyterian Sunday Schoolroom, last evening, when the lady members of the Bible Class wcrs entertained by Miss Mill, sister of Rev. Chambers Mill. A social is to be held in the Church | of Christ, this evening, and I under- | stand thai, a presentation is to be | made to Mr Thompson, who for | seme time past li. s been attending | to the Sabbath services. | A football match is being arranged jj between ICohunui and Mangatainoka, jj and will probably be played on Sat- 1 urday next. _ I Settlers in town from the outlying jj districts state that although several j slips have come, down, the roads and S bridges in the County have not suffered to any great extent by the recent storm. The weather to-day is fine, but yasterday's storm greatly j mitigated against a large entry of stock being received at the local stock sales to-day. Business in the land agent line is ( beginning to look up, and last week J Mr Peter Tulloch was successful in j disposing of three farms, varying in j siz? from ICO acres lo 500 acret>. The committee who are attending to the formation of the Mangatainoka Defence Rifle Club are displaying considerable energy and hope to have the Club an established fact before long. A good number of sportsmen arrived in town by to-day's express to take pari in the Woodlands Hunt Club Steeplechase Meeting to-moi-row. Should the weather continue as to-day, a good day's sport is promised. The meeting of the Bush Districts A. and P. Association called for last evening at Woodville was postponed owing to the inclement evening. Mr Ross, M.P., was on a visit to Pahiatua to-day. Mr Sherman has sufficiently recovered from his recent illness aa to be able to again take up his duties as Librarian. An interesting football match is to be played at Dannevirke tomorrow, between a combined Dannevirke team and the Woodville Seniors. STOCK MARKET. Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on their Pahiatua sale to day, as follows: Owing to the exceptionally heavy weather of the last few days stock did not come forward up to advertised numbers. We, however, had a fair yarding of both sheep and cattJe, and cleared the bulk of the entry at satisfactory prices. We quote :--Sound- mouth ewes in lamb, 13s 3d to 14s 2d; hoggets, 8s Id to 13s for good sorts; 0 and 4-year bullocks, £5 Os GJ to £5 153-6 d; 2-year steers, £3 7s; sows in calf, £3 5s to £5; forward cows, £3 15s; store cows, £1 5s to £2 10"'; fat heifers, £3 8s; springing heifers, £5 Is to £6 2s Od; backward heifers, £2 18s 6d to £4; weaner steers, 31s; mixed weaners, 19a to 28s 6d. Messrs Dalgety and Co.,' Ltd., report as follows on their Pahiatua sale to-day The torrential rains experienced for the few days previous militated against the yarding of sheep. Two or three lines of bullocks advertised did r.ot come forward. We offered only one line of sheep, s.m. ewes, which brought lis 4d. Backward heifer 3 in calf brought £3 6s £3 17s; forward to profit, £4 12a 6d to£s ss>; 15 to 18 mouth steers.£2 2s to £2 16s; 3 and 4yr steers, from £4 10s to £5 83. Springing cows were well in demand, and sold at from £5 -5s *.o £6 2s 6d. We hold ov opening sale in the Pahiatua Farmers' yards on Tuesday next. The New Zealand Loas and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, held their first weekly sale in Messrs Dalgety and Co.'a yards to-day. The rough weather yesterday prevented a number of entries coming forward, hut despite the weather a fair yarding of sheep and cattle was submitted to a representative gathering of buyers, and practically a total clearance was effected. Sheep were confined to hoggets only, which made up to 8s 9d. Cattle.--Spring-ing heifers, £4 15s to £6 Is; yearlings, £1 2s 6d to £1 Bs"6d; 18 month to .2 year ttaers, 53s fid; store cows, sorts, 30s to 40s.
