INSTRUCTING THE FARMER.
VETERINARY SCIENCE. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, August 3. At the conference of A. an 3P. Societies, to-day, Mr J. G. Wilson, the President, spoke at length on the need for agricultural training and the necessity doing something to advance veterinary science in tins country. If there was a Chair of Agriculture in Christchurch, he said, it was only a short distance to Lincoln College, where demonstrations and experiments might easily be carried out in conjunction with the authorities there. If established in Wellington there is land at Trentham, or there is the experimental farm at Levin, which could easily spare a sufficient area for experimental purposes conducted by a Professor of Agriculture. If in Dunedin or Auckland arrangements could be made to get land without difficulty, either by gift or if nothing else was available, by renting a portion of a farm. "If our co operative experiments are to be extended, as I think they ought to be, how are you going to get trained men to conduct them" he asked. He also spoke of the need for a Chair of Veterinary Science, and failing that outlined a schema for sending two students by the Government to Victoria each year to study under Mr Giiruth until the number of students was tsn. He hoped that tor an annual expenditure of £750 we would be in tion nf securing two colonial graduates in veterinary science every year for State work, and, further, that the expenditure would be ultimately recovered. He believed that the Union Steamship Company would grant fares at reduced rates, and he hoped that the conference would not rise before it had taken step 3to put before the the wisdom of starting such a sshams as he had outlined.
