PERSONAL.
A farewell social was tendered to Mr and Mrs J. Curtayne at Martinborough, on the occasion of their departure for Kimbolton. During the evening Mr Curtayne received a valuable gold watch, and Mrs Curtayne a silver tea service. The Presbyterian Church presented the departing residents with a silver entree dish.
At the complimentary social at Auckland on August 20th to Mr W. F. Massey, Leader of the Opposition, which promises to be a very successfi] function, Mr Lang, M.P., for Manukau, will preside, a'.d speeches will be delivered by Mr Herriee. (exM.P. for Bay of Plenty), Mr Monk (exM.P , for Waitemata), Dr Bamford ( a representative elector in Mr Massey's district), and, parhaps by oiher visiting M's.P. Mr Ellis wha h'id only been ill a little over a week, had reached the great age of 83 years. The deceased was a colonist over half a century. Mr Ell»"s tcok up farming in the Wairarapa for some years, but subsequently removed to Wanganui. He has been a resident of Palmerston North for about a doze.i years. Mrs Ellis pre-deceased her husbmd in 1906, leaving a family of ten--four sons and six daughters —Messrs VV. B, and F. W. fillis, or Palmerston North, J G. Ellis, of Wanganui, and C. IL Ellis, of Stratford. Mes.lames C. Hunt (Palmerston North), Isaac Sargent (Wangaiui), Lukies (Hiwiui), H. H. Richardson (Marton), F. W. Mayo (Palmerston North), and Miss K. Ellis (Palmerston North).
