The Railway Commissioners' annual report shows that 52,051,000 passengers were carried on the railways during the year without loss of life. The net result, after providing for working expenses and interest, is a surplus of £388,000. The tramways resulted in a surplus of £79,000, being £5 12s 2d per cent, on the capital invested. One hundred and eighty-six million three hundred and eighteen thousand passengers were carried without loss of .life.
