METHODIST CHURCH.
SPECIAL, EVANGELISTICAL SERVICES.
A week of special evangelistical seivices commenced in the Methodist Church yesterday, and will be continued every evening this week. Mr H. N. Holmes, General Secretary of the Wellington Y.M C.A., arrived in Masterton on Saturday evening last to conduct these strvices, and he is being assisted by the resident minster, the Rev. C.'E. Porter. In connection with this mission the Rev. C. E. Porter delivered an openair address at the Post Office corner on Saturday evening last. A large number of people gathered to hear Mr Porter deal with the subject of "The Most Awful Fact in the World namely, Sin." Mr Porter, in the course of his remarks, made a very eloquent and impressive appeal to his hearers to turn from Sin. Mr Porter received a very attentive hearing, and concluded his address /by urging those present to come to some of the special services, where, he said, he was sure they would all derive some benefit. Mr Porter was very much encouraged by the attendance, and announced that he intended to continue his open-air addresses when the weather permitted, remarking that. "If the young men of Masterton will not come to me,' I am going to them" ''here was a good attendance at the churcn yesterday morning, Mr H. N. Holmes occupyinbg the pulpit. He spoke a few words to the children, und took as the text for his sermon, "Jesus answered them, I told you. and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me."
1 In the afternoon a special meeting for young men ntily was held in the Town Hall. The Rev. C. E. Porter occupied the chair, and there was a very large attendance. Mr Holmes gave a very interesting address on the "Highest Aim in Life for Young Men." Mr Holmes received a very appreciative hearing. Mr Ho:mes again occupied the pulpit in the Methodist Church in the evening. He took as his text. "Re member that Jesus Christ ot the hi ed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel." During the evening Mr S. Riilph sang the solo, "I will Feed My Flock.'' Special meetings for prayer were also held yesterday at 7 o'clock in the morning, and G. 30 and 8.30 in the evening, all of which were well attended.
