CARTERTON NEWS.

(From Our Resident Reporter). Friday. / TJie concert and dancs held in St. Mark's Schoolroom, last evening under the auspices of the Young: Women's Bible Class was well attended and a very enjoyable time was spent. A capital musical programme was provided, and later on dancing was indulged in. A word of praise is due to the young ladies who so successfully organised the function, a special word of praise being due to the Secretary, MibS Minnie White. Mr and Mrs H. |S. Moss are expected to reach here from their visit to England about the middle of August, ani for the purpose of celebrating their home coming the parishioners of St. Mark's will meet on Tuesday afternoon to make arrangements for a social to be tendered to them. Mr and Mrs Moss are active Church workers, and their absence from the parish has been keenly felt. The United Friendly bocieties' Council held their annual meeting last evening, Bro. T. G. Underhill presiding. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Bro. 1 J. N. Nicholls; Vice-President, Bro. W. H. Partidge; Secretary, Bro W. Tucker; Treasurer, Bro. Partridge. The committee deputed to procure a* trophy for card tournaments reported having decided to procure a case with velvet background, up>n which would be placed small shields, bearing the name of the winners. The cost of some would b« about 30s, and as. the Oddfellows, Druids, and Foresters had contributed 10s each it was decided to rescind the resolution authorising £2 of the Council's funds being used for the purpose. It was decided to ask tbe Reshabites to re-consider their decision to. withdraw from the Council. At a meeting of the management or St. Mark's Sunday School it was decided to hold the annual concert on August 30th, in the Schoolroom. The report of Mrs J. H. Wakelin, Superintendent for the June quarter, showed a roll number of 113, the average attendance being 80. The local Methodist congregation has decided to . hold a three days' sale of work and exnioition, opening en November 18th.
