[Received July 30, 8.50 a.m. MADRID, July 29. A fierce fight,"lasting an hour, occurred between rioters and the Civil Guard 'at Barcelona Many were wounded on both sides. The troops in another part of the city refused to fire on rioter? who were engaged in an encounter with the police, in t the course of which eleven persons were killed and fifty wounded.
Later, in another quarter, the troops fired against barricades in the streets. The authorities are urging the use of artiljery. King Alfonso's proclamation urges peaceable citizens to remain indoors and avoid the risk of being accidentally shot. Business is at a standstill, and the city is in darkness. All Catalonia is in a state of insurrection. Numerous railway bridges have been destroyed. Troops have been sent to restore order. The authorities claim to have restored orderi n Barcelona by the vigorous use of arms.
The Minister of the Interior (Senor de la Cierva), has ordered the provisional Governors to act without pity. __ SERIOUS TROUBLE AT SARAGOSSA. RAILWAY LINES CUT. RIGOROUS NEWSPAPER CENSORSHIP. The Spanish soldiers are courageous enough, but their officers adopt obsolete tactics, and are not aware of the first principles of South African warfare. There was a gieat anti-war demonstration in front of the Palace at Madrid yesterday, where King Alfonso was staying,, civilians and soldiers shouting "Down with the war!" Attacks on the Government forces in Barcelona continue. Thirty were killed at the barricades yesterday. Five convents and several houses were burnt, and 'more bridges were destroyed with dynamite. TUESDAY'S BATTLE. ONE THOUSAND SPANIARDS KILLED. Received July 30, 9.35 a.m. MADRID, July 30. Tuesday's battle extended almost to the walls of Melilla. A thousand Spaniards were killed and 1,500 to 2,000 wounded All the soldiers in Spain who have not been discharged from active service, and the garrisons at Burgos, Logrono, and Vittoria, who are confined to barracks, are held in readiness to start for Morocco.
