The friends of Mrs StilKorn. senior, of Burtonfield, 'iinui, will rcrget to hear that she is lying seriously ill at her home. Little hope is held out for her recovery.
Mr N. H. Holmes, General Secretary of the Y.M.C.A., Wellington,, will arrive in Mastertot. ft. -morrow to conduct the special services in the? Methocist Church on Sunday, and* also every evening next week;
Captain Russell, of the British Army, and Mi?s Russell (i?on and daughter of Sir William Russell) have booked passages for Tahiti by the Manapouri, leaving here on August 12th. They are bound for London.
Mr E. H. Riley, a member of the Provincial Parliament of Alberta, Canada, is on a visit to New Zealand. He takes a great interest in agricultural mattete, and intends to absorb all the New Zealand ideas in connection with the farming industry.
Recent letters anr.ounce that Dr.. and Mrs Morice ar.d Miss Rubi Seddon have received a Royal command 1 —an exceptional honour—to theState Ball at Windsor. Pictures of Mrs Morice and Miss Rubi Seddoon in their presentation gowns—the latter was presented by the Duchess of Argyle—were in the "Sketch" of the second week in July. Dr. Morice was invited to be present, among the ambassadors and persons; of distinction, at the Drawing-rocm.
The Secretary of the Wairarapa. Hockey Association (Mr A. C. Pragnell) received very euglostic references from various speakers, when his health was toasted at the annual re-union of the Association at Carterton, last evening. Mr Pragnell has been most energetc in the discharge of his onerous duties, and this fact was specially leferred to, hopes being expressed that Mr Pragnell would long continue in the important, office.
A quiet but pretty wedding wa» solemnised at Holy Trinity Church,, rtisborne, on Wednesday, the contracting parties being Mr John Smith, youngest son of Mr Henry Smith, of Masterton, and Miss Beatrice Stanmore Tronson, fourth daughter of Mr Gerald Ironson of Meahee,, Hawke'a Bay. The Rev. H. Wyatt, was the officiating clergyman. The b-ide, who was given away by her father, was becomingly attired in a. cream tanVa divss, with beautiful* Oriental lac 'rimmings, and wearing the cusui.ary veil and wreath of orange bloss.on.B. She carried a pretty shower bouquet of maidtn-i,air fern and snowdrops. Miss? L. Robson, the bridesmaid, wore a cream costume, with silk trimmings and' steel blue "Merry Widow" hat, and also carried a bouquet of snowdrops and camellias. The bridegroom was ; attended by Mr J. Uownes. A handsome greenstone brooch was tho bridegroom's gift to the bride, ai d her present to him was a gold pendant. The bridesmaid's present was a neat work-box. After the ceremony the guests were entertained by Mrand Mrs C. A. P.rryr West End. The . happy couple left by the Wimmerai for their future home at Maeterton..
