(From Oar Resident Reporter). Tuesday. A social in aid of the Scarborough School Funds will be held m the Kchoolhouse on Wednesday week, August 4th, Mrs Meikleham, of Christchurch, 13 at present on a holiday visit to her daughter, Mrs Ritchie, of this town. I understand that Mr Hugh Shanks has disposed of his Nikuu property throught the agency of Mr Peter Tulloch, land agent. Th« following will represent the Pahiatua Goif Club to play against the Manawatu Club on the local links to-morrow:—Messrs 0. H. Dm --■(.', J. Osburn-Lilly. H. McSherry J. M. B. Marshall, G. H. Should the weather continue fine as at present a largo gathering is expected at the links to'morrow afternoon. Mrs T. Husband, of Woodville, and formerly of Pahiatua, received the sad news by cable yesterday of the death of her mother in England. The work of altering the creamery at Mangamaire is being proceeded with, and the settlers are eagerly waiting to see it converted into tho cheese factory. A large number of shares have been taken up. Mr W. Mathers, who baa been manager of Mr F. Moore's Puketoi Station for the past two veers, and who is leaving for Christchurch, was presented with a handsome travelling rug, this evening, at the Commercial Hotel, by his friends in this district. Captain J. B. Whyte made the presentation in a few well-chosen words, the recipient suitably responding. The following toasts were honoured during the course of a pleasant social evening, viz., "The Guest," "The Auctioneering■ Firms," "Freezirg Companies," (including old. companies and the proposed new one), "The' Farmers," and "The Visitors."
STOCK MARKET. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., held usual fortnightly sqle in the P.F.A. yards, today, when they submitted a fair yarding of sheep and a large yarding (.f cattle, more entries-com-ing' forward than advertised. The attendance was good of farmers and buyers, and a good sale resulted, practically all stock yarded being sold. Prices were as follows—Sheeo: Aged ewes in lamb, lis 9d; 2-tooth ews in lamb, 15s 2d: ewe hoggets, 10s lOd; mixed hoggets, 9a 8d; rams, 5s to 16s. Cattle: Four-year steers, 555; 3-year steers, £3 12s 6d; 2year steere, 61s to 645; yearling steers, 545; mixed yearlings, 32s 6d; dairy cows, good, £6 ss; medium cows, £2 18s 6d to £4; dairy heifer-', £4 to £4 10s; 3tore cows, 475; bulls, 503 to 60s. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on their P.F.A. sale to-day as follows:—There was a medium entry of both sheep and cattle, prices being on a par with late sales, excepting dairy he if era well forward in calf. Prices for this class showing a substantial rise. We quote:— Sheep: 2 and 4-tooth wethers, 13s 3d; good ewes in lamb, 15s lOd; mixed hoggets (best), 10s 10d to lis lOd; medium sorts, 83 6d. Cattle: Fat cows, £4 7s to £5 10s; store cows, £2 to £3 10s; springing cows, £6 15s to £7s Od; cows in calf, £3 to £4 10s; best springing heifers to £7 12s 6d; others, £4 to £5 7s 6d; yearlings, 23s 6d to 325; ' grown steers, £4 to £4 10s; 18-montha steers, £3 Is to £3 4s.
