DAMAGES FOR LIBEL.
ALLEGATIONS AGAINST AN ENGINEER. Received July 26. 8.45 a.m. LONDON, July 25. A Liverpool jury has awarded Mr Davies, an engineering expert, £3,250 damages against the "Sunday Chronicle" newspaper, which accused Mr Davies of informing the Home Office Commission of Enquiry that the lead-workers of Widnes were careless and dirty. The Mayor of Widnes and two Widnes newspapers apologised, and settled similar actions which were brought against them.
