ILLIBERAL DONATIONS TOWARDS OUT-OF-WORK FUNDS.
By Telsgraph—-Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, July 26. Messrs Bowron Bros., leather mer- - chants, have sent the Mayor a cheque for £SO for the Unemployment Fund. They have suggested that £2O be devoted to work on the .. Summit Road, but that the other . £3O was to be disposed of at the • discretion of the Mayor. The Christchurch Meat Company has sent a cheque for £IOO without -any conditions. Hhe unemployed question la as ■ acute as ever, but no demonstrations are being made. Excellent organsation udder Mr Cunnington, the well-known philanthropist, are doing good work among women and -children, who are suffering from the • enforced idleness of their bread winners. Money, clothing and food are being collected for relieving the sufferers, and it is hoped that the advent of good weather will work sub- .- atantial change in the condition of affairs.
