CARTERTON NEWS.

(From Our Resident Reporter). Saturday. The annual meeting of membeis of the Taratahi-Carterton Racing Club will take place on Saturday afternoon next. The report shows that during the year a commodious stewards' stand has been erected at cost of £995, of which sum £l5O is still owing. A jud.-e's box had been built, and other improvements effected. The stakes have been increased .by the amount of £365. Owing to the erection of a new stand and other improvements, together with the purchase of sheep, etc., the overdraft had somewhat increased. The popular event, the Wairarapa Hack Guineas, at the last meeting had been won by Mr W. C. Vincent's blk f Passive, by Lethe — Kotiki, and was decorated with the blue ribbon by Missßunny, daughter of the President. The club extended its thanks to Mr G. Tully for acting as judge at the last race meeting, having taken the position at short notice, and also to the honorary officals for the manner in which they have carried out their duties. honorary official, with the exception of six stewards retire at this meeting, but are eligible for re-elec-tion. The retiring stewards are Messrs A. Daysh, C. Rcid, T. Ray, J. G. Oates, and L. Nix. The nominations rceeived for the various offices are:—President, Mr H. R. Bunny; Vice-President, Mr H. Judd; Treasurer, Mr G. W. Deller; Stewards, Messrs T. Ray, J. G. Oates, L. Nix A. Daysh, and W. Howard Booth. j Mr R. Renall, of Kokotau, intends spraying the whole of his potato crops this season. Mr Nottage, Government fruit expert, will give a demonstration of pruning and spraying fruit trees here on Thursday week at 2 p.m., at Mr E. A. Beard's orchard.
