YESTERDAY'S ELECTION.
The result of the bye-election held yesterday to fill the vacancy on the Borough 1 , Council, was what we anticipated. Mr W. Morris has been raturned by a substantial majority, and he can certainly regard it*as an expression of confidence in him on the part of the burgesses when one considers that he]|was faced with so strong an opponent as Mr Edwin Feist. The defeated candidate can afford tojrest upon his laurels gained in previous contests for various responsible public positions, and he probably consented to be nominated for the contest just over more as an act of good nature than from any real desire to encumber himself with municipal duties. Mr Morris is an enthusiastic Borough Councillor, who given his services to the public in a most ungrudging spirit. His ability and his past record alike, deservedly entitle him to his win.
