(From Our Rpsident Reporter). n Thursday. At the Haw era Poultry Show last week, Mr C. R. P. Armstrong secured two first, two second, and* twothird prizes in the Buff Orpington class. Mr J. McCausland, who has the largest poultry farm in the district, is importing two of Padman's white leghorn cockerels from the Burnham Poultry Farm. The Marquis of Normanby Hotel is at present undergoing repainting. Messrs Shaw, and Cole, the enterprising proprietors of "Cornwall Mews," are having an asphalt floor put down in their stables. The interior of the iocal Post Office is at present being renooated. Loyal Heart of Oak Lodge, 1.0.0.F.,MU., met last evening, Bro. J. Butler, N.G., presiding, Bros. Geo. Bowles and C« J., De Lacey were re-elected delegates' to the United Friendly Societies' Council, and were accorded a vote of thanks for their past services in that capacity. The half yearly balance sheet showed the sick and funeral fund to have a credit balance of £2,143 Os 4d, an increase of £62 Ps 9d during the half year. Theßei gf volent fund showed a credit of £l4 6's 9d. One friend was proposed for initiation. Receipts for the evening were £lO 19s 6d, and disbursements £36 13s Bd. The Fire Brigade last evening decided to approach the Borough Council for a donation towards their funds, which at the present time are in need of help Honorary members' tickets will be issued during the month. Exceptionally heavy rain feU here this afternoon. The Maungatarere bridge, leading to Swamp Road, which is in a state of disrepair, is receiving the attention of the South Wairarapa County Council staft. Next week a series of Home Mission meetings in the interests of the Home Mission Fund will be held here by the Rev. T. G. Brooke, Home Mission Secretary of the New Zealand Methodist Church. The Bowling Club committee mat last evening and decided to support - the two-rink system in the Northern Bowling Association's annual tournament, as against the proposal of the "open door" or unlimited entries. It was resolved to promote a match some time during the season between Wairarapa and Wellington.
