A POLICY" SPEECH

The Premier, Hon. N. J. Moore, in a political speech, said that the deficit last year was £102,000. The area under crop had increased by 70,000 acres, and applications had been received for two million acres of land for settlement purposes. The goldfields production was £6,999,000 compared with £7,210,000 in th previous year. The decrease was due to the treatment of lower grade ores, but the industry was sound and profitable. The Premier foreshadowed large railway development, liberalisation of the Legislative Council, qualification. a Redistribution of Seats Bill o.i a population basis, and a Dairying Bill on New Zealand lines.
