CHAMPIONSHIP FOR AUSTRALIA. PEARCE DEFEATS MITCHELL. Received July 18, 5.5 p.m. • SYDNEY, July 18. In the match for the Sculling Championship of Australia (£2OO aside) Pearc3 defeated Mitchell bv five lengths on the Parramatta river. Michell got slightly the best of the start, but Pearce quickly overhauled him, and went to the front. Holding his opponent easily Pearce led throuehout, and won comfortably. Mitchel made a game but unavailing effort towar.ls the close, and finished badly pumped. Time, 23min 43sec.
