Captain Skey examined the men on the lecture' given last week on "Musketry," and Lieutenant Hart took the company in signalling, and a course of physical drill was performed under ColourSergeant McKinnon. of instruction f„r N.C.O.'s will beheld 1 from September 20th to' 1 28th. special Staff Sergeant-Major has been attached to the Wellington district: for signalling, and will probably visit the local company. A meeting of the General Committee of the Wairarapa P. and A.. Society was held yesterday, Mr W. Howard Booth presiding. A debit balance of £368 was reported, and accounts amounting to £7 werepassed for payment. It was resolved to appoint Mr J. Oarrach a permanent caretaker at a remuneration of £65 per annum. The following additional judges were appointed:— j Light horses, K. D. O'Korke, Auckland; milking cows, A. Donald,. Featherston; Holsteins, W. A. Kirby,. Bulls; Lincoln sheep, W. Gadsby, Manutahi. The Wellington Racing Club wrote that they intended increasing the stakes in "weight-for-age" races, and 75 per cent, of these would go to the winners of the events, and 25 per cent, would be given to P. and A. Societies for prizes in thoroughbred horse classes.. Upon receipt of the communication the President wrote inquiring what this Society's share would likely be,., and no reply had yet come to hand.. Messrs H. R. Bunny, E. ttagle, jnr., and W. Howard Booth were appointed to deal with the matter. Two resignations were accepted, and six new members elected.
