THE DOMINIONS' FINANCES.
After relating the deplorable condition into which the Dominion's finances have fallen under Govepnir.ent management Mr Millar calmly hands the problem over to Parliament for settlement, says the "Manawatu Standard." For years the Opposition has been pointing out that the expenditure was mounting up through extravagance in the fublic Service, and shameful waste of money on public buildings and unpayable'railways. The Government's only answer was a blank denial. But a crisis has now come, as it was bound to do. The Government, suddenly, realising the position, is going in for the most drastic and sweeping retrenchments at a most unstable iime, and the rest of the problem it is endeavouring to shift on to the shoulders of Parliament. Nothing could more plainly indicate to the people the ineptitude and waakness of the administration, and we shall be surprised if the lesson is not well learnt.
