Arrangements for the official opening of the new school on Wednesday I next are well in hand, and a good programme has been arranged for the social to be held in the Drill Hall in \ the evening. A farewell social is to be tendered to Miss Pearson at Ngaturi this evening. The amount advanced to the Suppliers of the Ballance Dairy Company equalled 10|d per pound of butter fat. for the June milk supply. The Mangatainoka Athletic Society are arranging a social for Wednesday evening next, in aid of the .'grand stand fund. There were heavy frosts on Wednesday and Thursday morning This morning drizzling rain fell and continued throughout the day. A football match between the 3?ahiatua Wednesday team and a team from Konini will take place at Pahiatua on Wednesday next, the winning team to be entertained <to 4t dinner by the losers. Both the butter and cheese factories are running every third day at the jpreßenl; time, and the milk supply as consequently limited. farmers expect iresh cows to come in, in a fortnight's time and the prospects for the corning season are . Miller has also decided to put in , milking machines..this season. Mr Cfoayter has a water-wheel well on the way towards eomplfA tidn, and intends to use it for firewood cutting purposes, fe Mr C. Holdaway, senior, has gone for an extended trip to Nelson to visit his relatives. One of the most enterprising and systematic business men in Pahiatua is Mr J.'K. Carpenter, boot and shoe maker and importer. He carries a huge stock of the leading brands' of footwear, carefully selected, and Icept in the best condition. Twice a year he holds a sale, during which his nrices—at all times reasonable—are ~, reduced from thirty to fifty per cent.,, and residents of Pahitua and district are quick to take advantage of the unusual bargains that are obtainable during these sale periods. During the next ten days the whole o his stock will be offered at prices so substantially reduced that those who v are in need of footwear cannot afford to miss the chance of purchasing.
