STREET LOAN POLL.
PROPOSAL NEGATIVED BY SUBSTANTIAL MAJORITY. The poll for the loan of £12,000 proposed to be raised by the Masterton Borough Council for street improvements was held yesterday. The weather conditions were against a heavy poll being recorded, depressing rain falling for the greater part of the day. In consequence ony 448 voters went to the polling booths-, out of 1,69 i names on the roll. The proposal was rejected by a majority of 85, the figures being as follows: For. A gat. Infl. Kuripuni 29 51 Master ton 151 214? 3 Total 180 265 3 There was very small interest centred in tha poll, it being the general opinion In town during the day that the prospects of the proposal being carried i were small. The polling arrangements where in the capable hands of the Borough Returning Officer (Mr R. Brown), who was very punctual in the an nouncement of result, which was ascertained about twenty-five minutes after the poll closed.
