WAIRARAPA HUNT CLUB.
A SUCCESSFUL RUN. . One. of the most successful "meets" ever held under the auspices of tie Wairarapa Hunt Club took place yesterday, afternoon, at Opaki. A lar>re number of riders took part in the chase, and there was an unusually large attendance of interested spectators. The success of the "meet" was marred to some extent by an unfortunate accident which befell Mr J. Haxton, the rider of "Kuranui." Just before "check" was called his mount came to grief at one of the fences, with the result that he was thrown heavily to the ground, the horse rolling on him. Assistance was quickly at hand, and the injured rider was attended to by Dr Archer I Hosking, who was taking part in the hunt. On examination it was .found that the unfortunate man had sustained a broken collar bone, and the fracture of several ribs. He was conveyed into town in a vehicle, and is progressing as well as can be expected. Besides this accident one or two minor "spills" occurred, but fortunately were not of a serious nature. The course was a fairly stiff one, over 35 jumps having to be manipulated, including four stone hurdles, a log and a water jump. The "run" started from Mr W. H. Buick's property, and traversed the late Mr F. Buick's and Mr C. Bannister's farms, thence turning back over the property of Mr W. H. Buick. A "check" was made at "Hawkhurst," the run home being through Messrs R. Buick's, Holmes Bros.', and finishing at Mr W.JJH. Buick's The drag was laid by the patron of the Club, Mr C. F.
