CARTERTON NEWS.

Tuesday. The Wairarapa and East Coast Pastoral and Agricultural Society has so far appointed the following judges for their annual Show:—Fat sheep and cattle, G. W. Clarkson, Pirinoa; Romney Marsh sheep, R. Tanner, Longburn; Southdowns, H. Parnett, Stringstone, Canterbury; pigs, R. Perrett, Sanson, Rangitikei; dogs, S. Johnston, Palmerston N.; dairy produce, D. Cuddie and staff, Department of Agriculture; wool, J. B. Bairstow, Carterton: home'industries, Mrs John Cundy, Featherston, and Mrs W. Fisher, Clareville. This year the Wairarapa P. and A. Society has been aWotted the New Zealand Sheepbreeders' Association's championship for Southdowns. Totara Lodge, U.A.0.D., met last evening, Bro. E. Wallis, A.D.,presiding. Three brothers were declared on the sick fund, and one brother was reported to the Wanganui Hospital suffering from a broken leg. It was also intimated that a brother was undergoing treatment at Rotorua. One new member was initiated, and three proposed tor membership. The receipts for the evening amounted to £l9, and disbursements £34.

It is rumoured that another firm of butchers ktand commencing business here. They will sell for cash only over the counter, and by this means intend to sell at a low figure. Mr and Mrs H. McFarlane and family were entertained at a farewell social at Belvedere, last evening. Mr McFarlane was presented with an easy chair from the School Committee and residents of the district. Miss Ruby McFarlane was the recipient of a handsome brooch in recognition of her services in connection with the Post Office at Belvedere.
