WELCOME SOCIAL TO MR ALF. SNOWBALL. A most enjoyable evening was spent at the Y.M.C.A. Building/last evening, when the members of the Association tendered a welcome social to the new General Secretary, Mr Alf Snowball.. About fifty persons wsre present, and the gathering was presided over by Mr G. Falla, Vice- ! President, in the unavoidable absence [ of the President, Mr P. L. Hollings. An interesting programme was sub- J mitted, and included an overture by j the Association's orchestra, reoita-1 lions by Messrs D. Hebenton and E. R. Wilson, solos by Messrs J. Gray and C. Ibbetso-i, and two comic J songs in character by Mr H. J. Greenwood. Encores were numerous, the items being much appreciated. The Chairman welcomed Mr Snowball to the Association in a neat speech, and in reply the guest expressed his pleasure at being located in Masterton to carry on the work of the local Association. He recommended that a membership campaign be inaugurated immediately, as he believed that tha membership could be doubled in a few weeks. The proposal was enthusiastically received, and two tpams picked to be I known as red and blue. Messrs Ibbetson and L. H. Lewis were elected captains respectively. After refreshments the proceedings closed with cheers for Mr Snowball and the singing of "He's a Jolly Good Fellow." The accompaniments were excellently played by Mr H. Inns, th 9 piano being kindly lent by Messrs McLeod and ¥oung.
